Commentary
Objectives
This sessions aims to improve your player's ability to run with the ball, change direction and be aware of passing options. The final part focuses on timing of the pass and receiving the ball along with composure to hit the target.
Setup
Any number of players plus a goalkeeper in the penalty area of a full sized pitch. You will need two mannequins and 12 cones.
Coaching points
The set up is as shown, Player 1, on the left side of the penalty area, dribbles in and out of the cones [shown as blue markers] and passes the ball to player 2 before going around the last cone.
Player 2 passes first time back to player 1 who has carried on his run past the mannequin to Player 2's left, Player 1 should try to shoot first time but less capable players may need two touches.
Player 2 recovers his ball and joins the line. Players 3 and 4 repeat the process on the right side.
Groups should change sides periodically.
The older and better players should be encouraged to perform the exercise quickly, especially the exchange of passes prior to the shot.
Ensure players get to practise both left and right shooting by changing the players over from side to side. Promote and encourage accuracy before power.
